Our Previous study has shown that energy restriction reduces c-Ha-ras and c-fos mRNA levels in mammary tissues, but not the levels in the liver of female rats. In the present study, we further investigated whether 30% energy restriction from five weeks to 20 weeks affects c-Ha-ras and c-fos mRNA levels in various tissues including salivary gland, uterus, ovary, lung, and skin of female rats. Both c-Ha-ras and c-fos mRNA levels were highest in the skin. Energy restriction did not affect either c-Ha-ras or c-fos mRNA levels in any tissue examined. Results from our previous and present studies suggest that the effect of energy restriction on the expression of c-Ha-ras and c-fos mRNA is tissue-specific.
